Trumpet Player, Soloist, Composer,
Recording Artist. David Pyke is an instrumental performer
who has played a diverse range of music and genres in
his 15 year professional career. Although, foremost
a musician and composer, David has worked as a broader
entertainer and cabaret soloist. His favourite genre
is sentimental and romantic trumpet ballads.
His career has included corporate and function work,
freelance musician, theatre restaurant, large ensemble,
cabaret, studio and radio work, a few televised performances
and public events e.g. Brisbane River Festival, Queen
Street Mall, Optus Cable Television and BTQ Channel
7 at Snug Harbour Brisbane. David has put together many
ensembles including up to 9 piece small orchestras for
live shows and cabaret work.
He formerly worked as a soloist trumpet instrumentalist
for the end of year shows at the Beenleigh Rum Distillery.
His original composition “Aurio” was selected
by Radio 4EB for their first compilation album, Raw
Fusion. Another of his original recordings, “Solitude
Blues”, has been selected by an American produced
compilation album currently being marketed in the U.S.
David has had extensive experience with Brisbane’s
Greek, Italian and Spanish ethnic communities working
with the popular party band ‘Havana’ for
five years. In 1998 David was invited to play at Harry’s,
the popular jazz club in Singapore and also played at
the Mambo Kings Club and the Marriott in Singapore.
In early 2001, David travelled overseas with playing
partner Anneliese Salisbury and played in a Be- Bop
band at Tonbridge Wells outside London with British
saxophonist Bob Banard.
In mid-2001, David and Anneliese moved to the Arabian
Gulf where David played at the Le Meridian Jazz festival
in Abu Dhabi and with the Cuban band Costa Rica at the
Sheraton. David became a regular solo feature at the
Al Dhaphra Beach Hotel and Continental Drift performed
concerts and private functions at Al Ruwais. In 2003,
Continental Drift played at a function in Durban South
Africa. David also co performed as guest artist with
the Bonami Mambo Jazz Quartet at the University of Natal
Durban.
In 2003, David and Anneliese returned to Durban to host
a concert of original chamber works with members of
the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. David has composed
two symphonies, numerous concerti, string quartets and
quintets as well as a range of chamber music.
Full sound system and lighting is available for hire including 1000 watt
